Southeastern Guide Dogs
These dogs are part of an eleven week old litter that is already in training. While they still have a lot to learn I was really impressed with how confident they were on strange surfaces, and with lots of people and gear around them. They are a special breed; literally.
These guys (and gal) are in training to be service dogs. If one of them doesn't turn out to have the disposition, he or she will just end up being a very mello pet. It is amazing to me the number of ways in which a dog can be of service these days.
This twelve year old actually fended of a young and rather aggressive pit bull the other day. He was on a walk with his owner and a small fluffy dog, when the pit came running out and went after the small one. He didn't bark or really even bite much, but he kept his body and big head between the pit and the others. No one got hurt and after a few minutes the owner came out and got his dog.
